Here are four great reasons why you should consider selling in the winter.

Sellers often ask if they should go ahead and sell their homes in the winter or wait until spring. There are several reasons why it’s often a great idea to sell in the wintertime:

1. Less inventory means less competition. In Northern Virginia, more sales close during the spring and summer months, but there’s also more inventory then. Less inventory in the winter means your house has a better opportunity to stand out against the rest.

2. Relocation. The busiest corporate relocation months are January and February, so those moving for work reasons are serious buyers who need to find a home fairly quickly.

3. Buyers are more serious. There aren’t as many looky-loos in the winter as in spring and summer. Most buyers are motivated in the wintertime.

4. Families often need more living space after autumn. The Social Security Administration and the Center for Health Statistics indicate that more births happen in September than any other month. The baby boom in September often means that growing families look for larger houses in the wintertime.
